In the first half of 2025, Brazil's total wood pulp exports reached 11.1 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 18.1%; during the same period, the number of port calls was 328, a year-on-year increase of 14.7%.
In the first half of this year, Brazil's wood pulp industry performed strongly, with export volume increasing significantly compared to 2024, mainly driven by the recovery in demand from China and the United States and the strengthening of the US dollar. The gradual recovery of prices and the continuous operation of newly commissioned projects have jointly supported Brazil's competitiveness in the global market.
Despite many uncertainties in the external environment, Brazil's wood pulp industry has shown strong resilience.
•Santos Port: Exported 4.8 million tons of wood pulp, up 22.0%; 137 port calls, up 23.4%.
•Porto de Sergipe: Exported 3.5 million tons of wood pulp, up 9.7%; 118 port calls, up 7.3%.
•Rio Grande Port: Exported 1.3 million tons of wood pulp, up 35.3%; 31 port calls, up 14.8%.
The new 50% tariff imposed by the United States brings uncertainty to Brazil's exports and may affect shipments to this key market. If the global economic growth slows down, overall demand may be suppressed, but export destinations may further shift to Europe and Asia.
